St. George the Great-Martyr

St. George the Great Martyr was a Christian soldier born around 275 AD in Cappadocia who rose to a high rank in the Roman army. He is known for his martyrdom during the persecution of Christians by Emperor Diocletian, refusing to renounce his faith and being beheaded on April 23, 303 AD. He is famously depicted as a knight slaying a dragon, a legend symbolizing the triumph of faith over evil, and is the patron saint of many countries and groups, including Georgia, England, and Ethiopia.
